This Week in Room 21...

“How To Make Toast”

This week in class we have been learning about design thinking and how it can help us plan for future projects in a collaborative way. Mr Moemai gave the class the task of drawing a diagram to show "how to make toast". The class were asked to do this task individually on a piece of paper without using words.

Next, students were asked to compare and contrast the processes they came up with. This was great, because every single student had a different perception on how to make toast! Some would put different spreads on their toast, others made sure that plugging in the toaster was essential! others preferred to cut their toast after the cooking process.

The final part of the exercise involved sticky notes and teamwork. Each group were tasked with mixing their ideas together to come up with the perfect way to make toast. The sticky notes encouraged flexibility with their work showing that ideas are not set in stone and can be moved. This task was a great way to help the class plan in an effective way. The class has already started using this type of design thinking in their inquiry units.
