Homework: Preparing a Pepeha

During "Te Wiki o Te Reo Maori" Mr Moemai asked the class what they wanted to learn about in the world of Maori (Te Ao Maori). One of the tasks you wanted to work on was writing a "mihi" or "pepeha"

Your Task this week (9);

Find the following things in relation to where you live now and put in a google doc and share with Mr Moemai:
  • A local mountain or hill  E.g. Mt Cook Hill (Maunga)
  • A body of water you live near. E.g.  The Hutt river (Awa)

  • How your family came to NZ. E.g. Plane or boat (Waka)
  • Your ethnicity or family name. E.g. Samoan or Moemai (Iwi)
  • A place where all your family would meet together for a special event E.g. My family meets at my grandmas house. (Marae)

Written task: Write two paragraphs about why a pepeha would be important to Maori but also to you in the modern world.

   Follow up: Next week you will work on a visual pepeha like Mr Moemai's and present to the class in week 10.

Please remember to do this in a google doc and share with Mr Moemai. Any questions please see Mr Moemai
