Mr Moemai is willing to make the class some Maori food as part of our work on learning about "Te Ao Maori" (The world of Maori).

Here are the steps that you need to follow in your literacy groups to taste the yummy food!

The Task:

Step 1: Research Maori food and find a type of food you are interested in eating!

Step 2: Find a recipe for the food you want to try.

Step 3: Change the recipe to cater for a class of 32 students and 4 teachers. Find out how much it will cost to make the food.

e.g. if the recipe is for 4 people, how much ingredients will you need for 34 people and how long will it take to cook the food? How much will all of the ingredients cost?

Step 4: Present a piece of writing with the following points (1 paragraph per point);
  • Why should Mr Moemai make the item?
  • What will we learn from completing this task?
  • Why would food be important in Maori culture and what makes the food a Maori cultural dish?

The group with the best argument and most accurate recipe will get their food cooked by Mr Moemai!
