Te Reo Maori Karakia

This morning, we learnt the song / karakia “Whakataka te hou”. It is a Maori song / chant which is used at the start of meetings or powhiri. This chant acknowledges the environment and sets the scene for a productive day. We will be reciting or singing this song at the start of each day. We will also learn other waiata throughout the term. Below are the lyrics or Kupu.

Whakataka te hau ki te uru,

Whakataka te hau ki te tonga.

Kia mākinakina ki uta,

Kia mātaratara ki tai.

E hī ake ana te atākura he tio,

he huka, he hauhu

Tihei mauri ora!
